Eric the muse

Bachata Instructor

Eric has been dancing since 2016. Ever since he could remember, music has been a part of him. Coming from a musical family , Eric sung as soon as he could speak. It was all he knew until 2016 during his second semester at Montgomery College. The theater department was putting together a production of In the Heights written by Lin Manuel Miranda (the creator of Hamilton). He decided to try out for the musical as a way to get in touch with his Latino roots and culture. He made it into the production as the Piragua Guy, a role he thought to be small and insignificant. It would later become the biggest blessing in disguise and would shape the dancer he is today.

Once the show was over , Eric had to continue dancing. He had learned the basics of salsa , bachata and merengue during the show but that wasn’t enough for him. It was just his luck that as the show came to an end, he found the MC Latin Dance Club where he would form friendships that have lasted to this day.

When his time at MC was done , he transferred to Gallaudet University to get his degree in Sign Language Interpreting (he has taught dance classes in sign language). Being at the World’s only university for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing didn’t stop him from dancing. He was known around the school as the Latin dancer. He would later be a member of the first ever majority Deaf Latin dance team at Gallaudet University (something he remains proud of today).

The pandemic put a halt to Eric’s hunger for dance but once it was “over” he hit the dance floor running. On a mission to conquer his fear of salsa, In 2021 he began classes under David Cuevas, the Owner and Director of Ardiente Dance Company. His hunger for Latin dance only grew from there. While he was training with Ardiente , he couldn’t ignore his love for bachata so he enrolled in online classes with world famous bachata dance couple , Ataca y La Alemana. It was through those classes that cemented his love for Modern Bachata , a fusion of bachata rhythm with elements of salsa and cha cha cha.

During this time , he met a dancer named Stephane who inspired him and gave him the opportunity to be a dance instructor in her class. This was the pivotal turning point where Eric would realize his love for teaching. Summer of 2021 was where he devoted his time to learning how to teach bachata.

Eric is a PROUD Bachatero with salsa in his heart and a love for teaching people and helping them discover the fun , love and joy of Latin dance!
