Salsa, Bachata Instructor
The passion that Luis has for dance came at an early age, where he continued to live out through Quinceñeras and Latin Festival showcases throughout his high school years. He joined his first studio during college, Xplosive Rhythms dance studio, which ignited his desire to learn more about the art and technique. He first started with Casino style dancing that reflected his love for Cumbia as a child. Since then, Luis has taken over 100 private lessons from professional dancers all over the nation focusing on Bachata and Salsa to refine his dance technique, and enjoys sharing what he has learned.
In 2016, he joined the Atrevidos bachata team in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he began traveling internationally to Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica, Munich, and Paris. He founded “The 502 Bachateros” in Louisville, Kentucky shortly afterwards, now known as the Meraki Dance Company, led by his previous dance partner. Once Luis gained complete confidence in the Bachata scene, he ventured off to join Salsannati in Ohio, where he was able to delve into his love for salsa and performed “on 2” for the first time.
Luis is a native from Kentucky, where he graduated with his Masters Degree in Social Work in 2019 and made his move to the DMV in February 2020, right before the pandemic. Since arriving in DC, Luis has performed with Yamulee DC, and continues to find ways to incorporate dance in his everyday life. He is excited to live out his passion for teaching in joining this studio, and the opportunity to grow, develop his skills, and share his knowledge with newcomers and collaborate with seasoned dancers.
