“Teach people how to live better through dance.”
Born in Brooklyn, NY by a Panamanian father and a Puerto Rican mother, Alex Rodriguez was raised in Fort Lauderdale, FL. During his early years, he loved sports and music. In school, he was shy and never asked or answered questions. During his teenage years and after the events of 9/11, Alex turned his attention to the armed forces and attended a high school military program. In 2005, he became the county champion in marksmanship and biathlon. In 2010, he enlisted into the United States Air Force and is currently serving on active duty.
In 2014, Alex was introduced to Kizomba for the first time. Initially, he was not impressed, but he liked the music. In 2015, Alex took his first steps into dancing by attending a Kizomba class in Washington, D.C. That same week, he took his first Salsa & Bachata classes, driving 3 hours round trip to attend. In 2016, he ultimately found his passion for Kizomba during a local festival, and began to learn about the history of the African culture. By 2017, Alex traveled all over North America with the missions of personal growth and cultural dissemination. During trips to Canada and Portugal, he trained on how to share his knowledge of Kizomba and it’s roots, began his teaching journey, and now has more than four years of teaching experience.
Also known as DJ Mistério, Alex began DJing in 2017, and has played music for 100+ events across North America. He specializes in African, Latin, and Caribbean music.
