Dance is the language of the soul, to dance is to discover and dream with your feet …
At Salsa With Silvia we see dance as an important part of children’s development and education, where the love for dance, music and expressiveness will be a big part of their lives.
PLEASE SEE THIS VIDEO ABOUT OUR PHILOSOPHY AND METHODS OF TEACHING KIDS HOW TO DANCE:
Dance has important physical, social and emotional benefits. It is an aerobic exercise with multiple benefits for the body. It develops body expression, hearing and memory. Dancing develops children emotionally while allowing their feelings to flow freely and even relax while releasing adrenaline.
The founder of the studio, Silvia Alexiev, experienced dancer herself, designed the Studio’s Kids Dance Program inspired by her children. She believes that dance is the best way to stimulate discipline while developing fine motor skills. In addition, dance promotes the development of personality and social communication while increasing the student’s confidence.
The Salsa With Silvia studio was founded in 2008 by owner, performer, choreographer Silvia Alexiev. Dancing became a passion for life when at the age of 6 Silvia’s mom took her to a folk dance class for the first time. Quickly grasping the steps and becoming one of the best in the group, Silvia started traveling with the dance troupe. At 12 Silvia became a ballroom dancer and competed and taught both Latin and Standard International styles for 8 years. While ballroom dancing provoked the competitive drive in her, Silvia got tired of all the rules and regulations of ballroom dancing.

Then she discovered salsa in a Washington, DC club where she was dazzled by the amazing moves and passion that the dancers were showing off with. As a lead female dancer for a DC Salsa Team,Latin Motion, Silvia has performed at some of the largest salsa showcases in the World such as the LA, Puerto Rico and New York Salsa Congresses. Silvia started teaching dance in 2008 and the word got out so quickly that soon she trained her own instructors and founded the Salsa with Silvia dance studio.
Silvia is a proud mother of two girls. Being a mom and having started dancing at an early age, she is dedicated to providing children with a solid foundation in dance. Silvia believes that dance can help children develop important skills in life such as coordination, balance, grace, etiquette but most of all they stay focused while having fun. Silvia trains her own performance team and acts as a manager and marketing director of the Salsa With Silvia studio.
Currently, the Salsa With Silvia studio is number one on Google for salsa dance classes in the DC area and is offering Latin and other dance styles to kids and adults. In 2014, Silvia initiated an effort to expand the studio due to an overwhelming demand.
Silvia and her team applied and won an expansion grant in the amount of $85,000 by the DC Great Streets Program to open and build out a new commercial space for the Salsa With Silvia studio in 2016.
Watch a live interview on FOX News where owner Silvia Alexiev talks about the expansion of the Salsa With Silvia studio:
We are proud to share with our families that after over a year of very hard work and dedication, on April 23rd, 2016, Silvia and her husband opened doors to what’s now officially the Largest Latin Dance Studio in the DC area – a magnificent dance, conveniently located on Georgia Avenue in the Columbia Heights/Petworth neighborhood of Northwest DC. The studio is four blocks way from two Metro line stations and is accessible via a number of bus lines. The dance studio features mirrors and hardwood floors throughout, fourteen foot ceiling height, variable lighting, main floor that can be separated in two individual rooms, office/prep room and a kitchen. The studio has been sound-proofed so that it can accommodate events with loud music. Additional amenities include: state-of-the-art audio equipment, internet and WI-FI access, zoned air-conditioning, two ADA-compliant bathrooms and chairs. We look forward to grow our kids dance after school program and our summer dance camp program and share it with the community. The space is also available for rent for birthday parties and other celebrations. It can be rented by the room or as one large space. Contact Silvia for more info.
