DANCE INSTRUCTOR

ABOUT THE STUDIO: The Salsa With Silvia studio is the number one and largest Latin Dance studio in the DMV. The studio’s program for children offers a variety of dance styles such as ballet, modern, contemporary, jazz, tap, Latin and hip hop.  The studio is looking to hire a part time dance instructor for kids ages 0 to 12. The studio also offers full day spring and summer dance camp during which part time and/or full time instructors, assistants and teachers are needed. The candidate should specify in their application if they want to be considered for the dance camp positions. More information about the camp programs is also available on the studio’s web site.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: As a kids dance instructor, the candidate(s) will be responsible for:

  • Participate in the preparation of class curriculum for the semester.
  • Be prepared for each class; the instructor has to be very clear on what will be covered in each class and be ready with warm up & stretching exercises, music, activities, talking points and more.
  • Making sure the students are focused during the class and be flexible and creative as to how to engage their attention.
  • Come up with a reward system for students that do well during class.
  • Communicate with the parents about the progress the children are making during the semester and what they need to focus on.
  • Prepare a short choreography for the recital for the end of each semester, teach it and guide the kids during the recital performance.
  • If the candidate works part time or full time during spring and summer dance camps, they will participate with dance instruction, educational activities, outdoor time, light cleaning duties and more.

DESIRED QUALITIES: Ideal candidates would have:

  • At least 3 years of dance background in one or more dance styles (performing, teaching, training, studying dance).
  • Ability to quickly adapt and learn new styles of dance.
  • Prior experience teaching and working with children.
  • Must be energetic, able to quickly come up with ideas as to how to engage the children’s attention.
  • Must be responsible and reliable. Arriving at least 10 minutes prior to the class is required.
  • Should have a current CPR certification and basic insurance for bodily injuries and liability.

Salary: $25 per class (45 to 60 minutes) when teaching as the main instructor. $15 per class (45 to 60 minutes) for assisting another dance instructor.  $15 – $20/hour for part time or full time spring and/or summer camp teachers/assistants (salary based on experience). In addition the candidate will be eligible to take all group dance classes offered by the studio.

ASSISTANT INSTRUCTOR/SUB INSTRUCTOR:

  • Communicating with the instructor prior to the class about the material covered during the class.
  • Be very active in preparing the material for the classes and suggesting ideas.
  • Making sure the children are executing the assigned exercises properly, correcting their posture, etc.
  • Helping the instructor with props needed for the class.
  • Communicating with the children and participating actively during the class by guiding the students and demonstrating the moves.
  • Making sure the students are focused and listening to the instructor.
  • If the candidate works part time or full time during spring and summer dance camps, they will participate with dance instruction, educational activities, outdoor time, light cleaning duties and more.

  • Must love to work with kids.

FRONT DESK POSITION

ABOUT THE STUDIO: The Salsa With Silvia studio is the number one and largest Latin Dance studio in the DMV. The studio offers an extensive dance program for adults as well as for children. Most adult classes take place in the evening hours during weekdays and all day during the weekends. Children classes are in the early afternoon during weekdays and mornings/afternoons during weekends. Front desk staff is also needed during studio rentals and events. The studio is looking to hire part time front desk staff with flexible schedule.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: As front desk staff, the candidate(s) will be responsible for:

  • Always looking presentable during work shifts at the front desk and wearing the official Salsa With Silvia shirt.
  • Be knowledgeable about the services, classes and events that the studio offers and always know where to find and refer to the most update information. Always be up-to-date with new offers, programs, events and services.
  • Be the sales person and face of the business and guide the clients into information and deals that would be applicable to them so they can make an informed decision.
  • Help clients with information that they need to obtain.
  • Knowing the online registration system and be able to process variety of transactions quickly.
  • Registering guests for classes, informing them about new classes, programs and events, processing payments.
  • Politely answering the phone and providing necessary information.
  • Performing light cleaning duties and always making sure the studio is intact and ready for the upcoming classes/events.

DESIRED QUALITIES: Ideal candidates would have:

  • At least 6 months experience in working front desk or a receptionist position.
  • Be responsible and reliable and always arrive on time for shifts.
  • Be a hard worker willing to impress.
  • Be an excellent sales person and communicator.
  • Be good with computers and must know how to type.
  • Be diligent about clocking in and clocking out.
  • Be kind and polite and a quick learner.
  • Be a team player.

Salary: Base salary is $10/hour. In addition the candidate will be eligible to take all group dance classes offered by the studio and will receive an end-of-the-year bonus for performance and volume of sales.

GRAPHICS/WEB DESIGNER AND SOCIAL MEDIA INTERN

With a rapidly growing volume of classes, programs, events schedule and students, the studio is in need of a part time media intern responsible for all media updates on social media and the web. POSITION DESCRIPTION: As media intern, the candidate(s) will be responsible for:

  • Be in close communication with the studio owner and studio manager.
  • Be informed about ongoing and upcoming events, new programs and classes, new and current services.
  • Design simple and quick flyers for new classes, programs and events.
  • Select and quickly edit the best photos of an event and post them on all media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, web sites).
  • Write up short descriptions and post updates about new events, classes and programs on all media platforms.
  • Create new posts and pages for the main and for the kids website.
  • Showing initiative and inform the studio owner about things that have to be updated.
  • Occasionally take photos and video of events and classes.

DESIRED QUALITIES: Ideal candidates would have:

  • At least one year experience with a graphics software.
  • Be very creative while able to comply with the studio’s overall branding.
  • Should have a basic portfolio with examples of their work.
  • Candidate may be in college studying graphics/web design, video production.
  • Some video editing experience is a plus.
  • Basic Word Press editing knowledge is a plus.
  • Should be a go getter and able to always stay on top of what’s new.
  • Show initiative and come up with new ideas as to how to spread the word about the studio and its programs/services.

Salary: Salary is project based. The candidate will be offered a compensation per project completed. The pay will be announced prior to beginning of the work. In addition the candidate will be eligible to take all group dance classes offered by the studio and will receive an end-of-the-year bonus based on performance.

Job location: The job can be performed from home. Candidate should be prepared to meet with the studio owner or talk on the phone on regular basis.
